Standing in the River as Your Ass is Getting Wet
Paul Stukowski, Sep 07, 2005

Too quiet
one can hear the drops.
Breathing in the cold,
the warm,
breathing in the shadows.
Here in the quiet
in the rain,
just standing,
just sitting,
just standing in a river
on a sunny day in the park,
the river creeping up the fabric,
not rain in the cold.
Just standing in a river
watching the day drift by
on the hollow of the wind.
There is no rain
dripping-
it is a child
splashing
and the sun was shining,
no, crying,
no, shining-
a sun shower,
heavy on the sun,
light on the shower.
It is the river
that brings the damp,
it is the river
that flows so swiftly,
not the gutter.
It is the day,
not the lamplight,
that brings the shadows.
Standing,
not sitting,
in the river,
not the rain.
Tired from sunlight,
not time,
smiling,
not crying,
not waiting for sleep.
