Quick Scene on Futility

(lights up)
[Person 1 is pacing back and forth while Person 2 is fiddling around with a computer.]

Person 1
Its giving me a headache.

Person 2
Are you looking at it too long? Speakers too loud? Are you just plain sick and need to sleep?

Person 1
No, no, its giving me a headache. I turn it on and I get a throbbing in my head.

Person 2
Then leave it off, get some rest, and try it again tomorrow.

Person 1
No, I need to use it today.

Person 2
Then its going to keep giving you a headache. You cant blame your computer because something you do gives you a headache. Live with the headache or dont do whatever is giving you the headache.

Person 1
But its for a job.

Person 2
I cant do anything about that. If something about your computer is giving you a headache, either you stay away from it for a while, or you just take the headache. Theres nothing else to do.

Person 1
No, fix it.

Person 2
There is nothing to fix. Thats just how it is.

Person 1
There has to be something. Somethings wrong.

Person 2
It could just be you. You might need a break. It happens. The computer is functioning as its supposed to.

Person 1
No, theres something wrong with the computer.

Person 2
Then leave it off for a day, and try it again tomorrow.

Person 1
No, I need to do things.

Person 2
Well, you cant do them here.

Person 1
Its supposed to help make things easier. Why cant you make it do what it is supposed to do?

Person 2
Its doing what it was made to do. Any problems you have with it are on your end. You picked this computer, thats what you have to work with.

Person 1
Its not doing its job. Make it work right.

Person 2
Look, I cant argue with you all day. Either take the headache, or go and do something else with your life. If you keep coming back to this today, its going to keep hurting you.

Person 1
No, thats not how its supposed to be.

Person 2
Well, thats how it is. Goodbye.

[Exit Person 2.]

Person 1
But, you cant go until I get what I want!
